Shaped, sculpted and scissored by the Lord and six studio stories
Today, I'm sharing (below) six really short stories of studios I've come to know.
1. Tree House Studio 2017
The seed for The Bible Study Studio, was somewhat planted in what I'm today calling The Tree House Studio! I have the most pictures of this Studio and the Good Lord blessed me greatly to design this studio as needed. This studio became a place of productivity and peace for me, although overhead plane noise often broke my focus.
2. Valley Office Studio 2014
We have a great many moves, under our belt and in 2013, while on the Holley Gerth's God Sized Dream Team we moved into what I had at some point title our God Sized Dream House. And after my graduate bride moved out of the house with her husband, with a great many tears, I cleaned out her bedroom and closet to make way for the Valley Office Studio.
3. Downstairs Duplex Studio 2011
I'm not at all shame to say The Downstairs Duplex Studio did not last long, we lived in this large four bedroom duplex for less than a year! Like I said the duplex was comprised of four bedroom, two bedrooms up and two bedrooms down. The second bedroom downstairs had these beautiful walnut french doors and as we moved in, I quickly set this room up as a studio for two.
4. Garden Shed Studio 2010
The story of how the Garden Shed Studio came to be was shared in a national publication and was the very first time my words were published in print! After the installation of found French doors, this studio, just steps from our back door became the almost perfect production place. And this studio is actually the place where I started physically placing the written and printed WORD of the Lord on my artwork.
5. Rock-river Bottoms Studio 2001
We moved to the sweet house on Rock River Bottoms, the August my daughter began Kindergarten! It was one of five brand new houses, a realtor friend of my sister's had built as rental property. My daughter is currently knocking on the door of thirty. So, yes, it's almost been twenty-five years since I set up my Graphic Design Studio, in the burgundy painted dining room of our new home. The kitchen and living room were super close by, so, I was able to keep close tabs on my two and five year old children, while I worked on multiple collateral graphic design projects for more than forty clients. The Rock-river Bottoms Studio was a hub of excitement and momentum. Clients often stopped by and someone was always in the need of getting something printed! I have zero pictures of the Rock-river Bottoms Studio, but the memories are no thing but joyous.
6. Red floor attic Studio 1998
Back in 1998, I lived in East Nashville, the April, after the ice storm of 1994, I purchased a 1910 Victorian for $38,000. Yes, I purchased a fixer upper on almost two acres for what a decent car costs today! I have zero pictures of the Red floor attic Studio, but boy, do I have memories! My daughter was born the Summer of 1996. During the 1998 Tornado storm damage repair work, I had my contractor install double skylights and paint my attic studio floor red. This design studio was for sewing, quilting and fashions, as I was also, an assistant buyer for a chain of one hundred, country and western boot stores. I worked everyday on 2nd Ave and my/our nights were spent at home tending the house and gardens.
Little did I know, then, the Lord had other design plans for me. Today, a corner of our living room serves as a studio for me. Each one of the studios above has shaped, sculpted and scissored me into the wife, Mother. and Grandmother, I never really knew I would be.
