BOOKISH THINGS PLUS COFFEE (FIRST CUP FRIDAY): NOTES ON PUBLISHING #002
NOTES ON PUBLISHING - #002 CITING THE WORK
First Cup Friday is somewhat of a RIGHT NOW solution to THE FIRST CUP. I imagine at some point in time, THE FIRST CUP will return to YOU TUBE, while First Cup Fridays will hopefully become a written type of Wrap Up of THE FIRST CUP. But for now, this space is dedicated to Notes on Publishing!
I don't know if you've heard of Claudine Gay or not, but let me just tell you at one point she was President of Harvard. There was a whole lot of talk about the possibility of her plagiarism in her work, of which The Guardian reports, there were only a few instances.
Plagiarism is the use of another's ideas or work without attribution or credit. To present the idea or ideas of another as the work of one's own is theft.
The key to avoiding plagiarism is to properly CITE the work and ideas of others! Properly citing the work and or ideas others is what this post is all about!
As a Christian, non-fiction written, I wondered what the approbate style of writing might be and since The Vanderbilt Divinity School uses The Chicago Manual of Style, also known as Turabian Method I've decided this is the style all of my future writing will adhere to.
Thankfully, we can not use CITATION MAKERS to aid us in the actual process of creating citations on the page. I will be testing out a few of the FREE CITATION MAKER below and at some point in time I will let you know as to which maker, I have decided to use. Be sure and CLICK on the link below and search for the Chicago Style Maker, as most makers have the three major styles loaded on their sites.
