Mental Health Moments: Prized Possession

Instability seems to be the accepted normal of our unstable world. We live under assumed labels rather than the hope in cultivating wholeness. Our personalities have taken major hits with many unable to recover. Buzz words are often our “go to” for difficult people. Back in the day people relied on labeling people “bi-polar” to help deal with being hurt. The current buzz word is “narcissism.” The reality is both do exist but the issue I am unveiling is the abuse of such labels. Personality disorder is defined as a way of thinking, feeling, and behaving that makes a person different from other people. The stressors of our times are producing mass numbers of people with distorted personalities. My personal story was a long journey with many labels on the list of personality disorder. That is until our Lord delivered a professional to make me aware our environment, abuse, and other traumas are the breeding ground for shattered personalities. Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that pour toxicity into relationships and create a slow drip of generations of people slowly dissipating into a society of normalized ineffectiveness and hindrance.

“She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.”

Proverbs 5:6 NIV

One must understand the wounds that create a heart poisoned in waves of torment. The scarcity of trust, the longing to be loved and wanted. The never-ending struggle to “fit in” a world that declared our precious worth as “not enough.” The brokenness of parents that were inflicted with the infections of our current afflictions. Co-workers living in the darkened past of their present refuge of imprisoned pain. Relationships between a man and a woman now declared rivaling enemies from resentments held from a long-ago trauma that now fuels distrust, and lack of communication. Sexual intimacy a lost covenant treasure, now the power of defilement takes first position. Pornography being the counterfeit intimacy for many living in avoidance slowly decaying in the spoiled fruit of its seed. We must see the strategy of the enemy crumbling the foundation of our hope and stability as a nation.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Romans 12:2 KJB

The abundant available gift to think from a place of wisdom, not transferred toxicity. Feelings not entrusted to the broken-wounded heart, but trusted to acquiring the priceless jewel of self-control. The long journey in wait to see the authentic image of ourselves as a prized possession of our creator Elohim. Transfusing the love of God into the pain of our exaggerated feelings. Training our bodies to be governed by the stability of wisdom not the instability of desperation. The power of knowledge and prudence are the ammunition to free an enslaved mind. Our brains are complex remarkable gifts from the creative magnificence of the Kingdom Throne. We are fully equipped to reach for a better standard of loving, living, sharing, respecting, and existing as whole complete individuals. The labor will not be easy, but the fruit of the labor will alleviate the endless toil of the hindrance of avoidance. The very prerecorded tapes planted in our minds that were spoken over us in the past to break us can be claimed by truth planting the love of God to make us whole. The wisdom of God can put the pieces of our lives back together without the scarring from the attempted devastation.

“They will fight against you but will not overcome you for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 1:9 NIV

Daily I witness the beautiful hope in this nation dwindle and dissipate into the strategic winds of extreme dysfunction. Hearts lay in coffins of bitterness, and resentment. Minds of instability’s torment denies faith to see another morning’s hope. Behaviors void of self-control are nothing more than crusaders of death. Impulsivity heightened as fear gains ground. When we lose the capacity to love and recognize the individual esteem of another, we hinder not only them but ourselves and the beauty of this nation.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Hebrews 21:1
